DA Charges Long-Time Democrat Incumbent with Election Law Violation

York, Pa – Democrat councilwoman Toni Smith charged with violating election law.York County District Attorney Tom Kearney has charged Democrat city council incumbent Toni Smith with violating election law. The DA’s office issued a news release containing the following details regarding the charge:

Complaint No. 1 – Toni Smith – Mr. Turner alleged that Toni Smith violated 25 P.S. Section 3254 © of the Election Code. Section 3254 (c ) which provides that “It shall be unlawful for any person to make a
contribution of currency of the United States or currency of any foreign country to or for the
benefit of any candidate which in the aggregate, exceeds one hundred ($100.00) dollars with
respect to any candidate for election.”

The District Attorney’s Office has determined that criminal charges are appropriate for this complaint. The rationale is set forth in the affidavit of probable cause attached to the
complaint.
